4 ways to love your boobs

How to give your sexiest assets the TLC that they deserve

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in the spirit of public awareness, all of us at Avec Amour would like to give a friendly reminder to go for your annual breast check-up if you haven’t already done so. After all, there’s nothing like the reassurance of your health to give you peace of mind.

At the same time, there are many other ways you can show your boobs the tender loving care that they deserve. After all, they’re one of the sexiest parts of your body, so do take time to care for them so that they remain in their best shape for as long as possible.

Here are 4 ways you can care for your boobs in October - and beyond.

1. Go Wireless
Contrary to popular belief, underwire bras may not necessarily be the best type of lingerie to wear. For starters, they can feel very uncomfortable when you wear them for hours on end - who hasn’t breathed a sigh of relief after removing an underwire bra at the end of a long working day? Besides restricting your breathing, underwire bras may even accelerate boob sagging because they obstruct the natural movement of your breasts. In fact, it is recommended that those with larger breasts only wear underwire bras when an extra “boost” is needed for certain clothing like low-cut tops.

Otherwise, wear wireless, triangle bras which provide light support without preventing too much movement. They allow your breasts to move about naturally, so that you can “exercise” them to promote muscle and tissue strengthening so that they remain nicely in shape. Plus, lacy bralettes like those available on Avec Amour are so pretty, you can’t help but feel sexy and gorgeous when you put them on!

2. Conduct breast self-checks regularly
Although breast cancer is one of the most commonly occurring cancer in women, you do not have to fear it, as the chances of survival is very high with early detection. You can stay vigilant by conducting monthly breast self-examinations, which will allow you to become used to how your boobs look and feel normally. This way, you will be able to tell the difference if there is an abnormal growth.

Once a month, stand in front of a mirror and gently press on your breast in small circular motions. Repeat this procedure while you are lying down. Keep a lookout for persistent lumps, a change in the size or shape of your breast, orange peel dimpling or nipple discharge. Should you notice these symptoms, it is advisable to make a doctor’s appointment at your soonest convenience to get a medical check-up.

You may also want to avoid wearing underwire bras too frequently. The tight cups cause unnecessary pressure to be applied to the lymph nodes around the breasts, which are important for the drainage of fluids and toxins from your chest. Obstructing this necessary lymphatic drainage may lead to swelling and tenderness in your breasts and some people believe may result in health problems such as lumps and other related illnesses. By wearing bralettes or wireless bras, you can help facilitate your body’s natural detoxification process so you’ll remain in tip top health.

3. Pick the right bralette style for your boob size
Smaller chested women will look especially lovely in delicate bralette designs, like Eberjey’s Aurianne The Keyhole bralette, which has triangle cups to naturally mould to the shape of your breasts and adjustable straps so you can fit the bra just right. Or check out Bordelle’s Kizette Soft Triangle Bra, which has a front clasp to enhance your cleavage.
If you are blessed with a more well endowed chest, you can also wear pretty bralettes. Look out for designs that have thicker shoulder straps to provide more support. For example, Eberjey’s Colette Lace Racerback Bralet has beautiful lace shoulder straps and full coverage cups so you look sexy but feel supported at the same time. Do also look out for design details like the underboob strap of this Mimi Holliday Sugared Almond Shoulder Triangle Bralette which provides support without an underwire.

4. Pamper your breasts with a self-massage
When your body is feeling tired, one of the best ways to recharge is to go for a relaxing massage. However, breasts are usually not massaged during a spa session. So why not do a self-massage instead? Plus, a lymphatic massage can help to prevent lymph blockage. To massage your chest, place your palm flat on the opposite side of your chest slightly above the breast. Move the hand up the chest, over the collarbone and up to the neck, then release to stimulate lymph drainage.

While you are massaging your boobs, you can also apply a scented body lotion or oil to moisturise and soften your skin. It may feel strange at first, but after some practice, you will feel more connected to your own body.
